The Dolan DNA Learning Center

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) is the world's first science center devoted entirely to genetics education and is an operating unit of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. The Dolan DNALC, DNALC West, and Harlem DNA Lab extend the Laboratory's traditional research and postgraduate education mission to the college, precollege, and public levels by providing unique hands-on learning experiences to over 30,000 middle and high school students each year and training teachers to enhance science curriculum.

The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

Founded in 1890, the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has shaped contemporary biomedical research and education with programs in cancer, neuroscience, plant biology and quantitative biology. CSHL is ranked number one in the world by Thomson Reuters for impact of its research in molecular biology and genetics, and was home to eight Nobel Prize winners. Today, CSHL's multidisciplinary scientific community is more than 350 scientists strong and its Meetings & Courses program hosts more than 11,000 scientists from around the world each year. Tens of thousands more benefit from the research, reviews, and ideas published in journals and books distributed internationally by CSHL Press. The Laboratory's education arm also includes a graduate school and programs for undergraduates as well as middle and high school students and teachers. CSHL is a private, not-for-profit institution on the north shore of Long Island.

The Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium

After 99 years as a New York State trout hatchery, the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium opened as a non-profit educational center dedicated to educating our visitors about the freshwater ecosystems of New York. We are proud to have the largest living collection of New York State freshwater reptiles, fishes and amphibians. Visitors can tour our two aquarium buildings and eight outdoor ponds, feed the hungry trout, and try our “Catch & Keep” fishing.

The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum

Visit the Whaling Museum and explore Long Islanders’ evolving relationship with whales and the sea, from our local whaling industry of the 1800’s to modern efforts to protect and preserve these magnificent creatures. The Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center

On August 9, 2006, the CSH Library opened their doors to a new 21st century facility. Since 2006 they have expanded their mission to include an Environmental Center. The inaugural collection was a gift from The Nature Conservancy. Over the last 5 years usage of the library has skyrocketed. In 2011 they welcomed over 100,000 visitors and held over 80,000 titles. The public library is the one place with something for everyone and a free library card is the key. From toddler time to Tai Chi, from bestsellers to ebooks, from tax forms to homework help, from rooms for group meetings to rooms for art, music, film and lectures.

The Cold Spring Harbor State Park

Over 40 acres of hilly terrain, the Cold Spring Harbor State Park offers a moderate trail for hiking and scenic views of the Cold Spring Harbor bay and North Shore, LI at the top. This park is loved by many locals, as well as, residents from all over Long Island who enjoy spending their time outdoors. This park is pet friendly and also within walking distance to CSH Village which many hikers frequent after they’ve finished their hike.
